Five Questions – Valden Bush – June 2022

Interview With Valden Bush
Update: Brave Enough To Love came out in March 2024 and is still in the top 100 LGBTQ+ Adventure fiction. If you love lots of action with your romance you must check these out.
Valden Bush is a wonderful human being who has been a reviewer for The Lesbian Review for a number of years, so it was great to be able to interview her on her own writing.
What is your favourite lesfic book and why?
Ann McMann – Jericho. In fact there are three more books, Aftermath, Goldenrod and Covenant which all form a series. I loved these books. They are treasured items in my library. The story is about a small town in the USA and the people that live there, and the books follow and inform each other. They are written with love, humour and a wonderful understanding of the people. How living with each other when everyone knows everyone else’s business, or rather they think they do, can lead to all sorts of happenings both good and bad.

From your novels who is your favourite character and why?Questa Quess who is a Pargent. I had great fun writing them. To be able to create a humanoid being that would be friends with the hero was really freeing, they could be whoever my imagination wanted. I particularly enjoyed making her an empath and a telepath who was still learning to control her powers, thus her normally blue skellen (hair) flashes green when she’s got it wrong.

A number of your characters are women in uniform. What do you enjoy about writing about WIU?I just love a uniform 🙂 I used to wear one and I rarely found any books that had women from the Armed Services in them, let alone women loving women. These women have a host of stories that are worth telling, and I hope that more people will write them.
If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose, and why?

I would pick Ann Aptaker who writes the Cantor Gold series. Her word choices are always superb and paint pictures of New York as it was in the 1950’s. She has a superb eye for detail and takes lots of photos. I would love to spend a day with her walking around her haunts in New York.
What are you working on at the moment?I’m currently working on an adventure story with a romance. Its working title is Go Quietly. The story centres on a team from Department Six in London, who set out to rescue a woman. She was on a flight from Paris to Tokyo when the plane was diverted and forced to land. She is taken hostage and the plane is allowed to continue its journey. What happens next is the story.
Thanks Valden for the interesting comments, and good luck with the new release! I can’t wait.
