| Kate Castle kindly agreed to be interviewed, and I love some of her answers! |
| What is your favourite lesfic book and why? |
My favourite sapphic book is ‘Curious Wine’ by Katherine V. Forrest. It’s the first lesbian romance I ever read, so it holds a very special place in my heart. And I completely fell in love with Lane Christianson. She’s a wonderful romantic character; almost Bronte-esque. I’m a sucker for paradoxes and duality and she’s just this beautiful mixture of strong and weak, complex and simple, passionate and cool. A complete dichotomy! She’s a character I go back to time and time again. I’m a bit obsessed with her, actually. Haha! ![]() |
From your novels who is your favourite character and why?My favourite character is Ellery from Girl Island. I think she represents all that’s good in the world. She’s brave and selfless, she stands up for what she believes in, but she isn’t at all arrogant or proud. She’s kind and thoughtful and generous. And hot! I set out to write the ideal teenage protagonist and she definitely embodies that, for me anyway. She’s the sort of person I wish all young people aspired to be. But to be honest, I love all my female protagonists. I always try my best to write about strong, independent young women. It’s what I love to write about the most, before I even get to the story! Your first book (double Goldie winner!) was a Young Adult novel. Why did you choose to write YA and were there any particular challenges you encountered?I’ve always read and written YA/New Adult. I enjoy crafting fast-paced, exciting, adventurous stories and that’s synonymous with the YA/NA genre. So it was a natural choice for me. To be honest, I find it really hard to write anything else. But I have tried my hand at writing pure sapphic romance, and I’ve got one coming out next Spring. So it’ll be interesting to see if readers think my style of writing is a good fit for that genre, too. Fingers crossed. |
| If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose, and why? |
I’d love to hang out with Stephen King. I’ve been a huge fan of his since I was young, and his writing had a big impact on me. He’s a fantastic writer, so I’d ask him for all kinds of advice. Plus, I follow him on Twitter and he seems like a really interesting, and funny, person. And I agree with pretty much all of his political views, which can’t be said of a lot of authors nowadays. Yes, you know who I’m talking about! |
| What are you working on at the moment? At the moment I’m finishing up on final edits for my next novel, The Coven, which is due out in the winter. I’m also about halfway through my first draft of the second book in The Coven series. I’m also working on edits for my first sapphic romance, Licking the Bowl, which will be out in the spring. |
| And a bonus question because I couldn’t resist it:6. What drink best represents you and why?Aha, I love a drink question. Hmm, let me think about this. Well, I think I’m confident, fun and very loving – so what drink fits that bill? Maybe a fun, wholesome margarita…like a raspberry or strawberry marg. Something light and frothy, and familiar. A nice safe, happy drink. What you see is what you get with me! So a simple, fun margarita would probably fit the bill. Plus everyone knows how much I love margaritas now. Okay……now I’m thirsty! Okay, the margarita’s on me the next time we meet. Good luck with the next books. Thanks again, Kate. |
